8th Grade Academics

8th Grade at Corvian

Philosophy

At Corvian, students who enter middle school are presented with the opportunity to synthesize their knowledge and grow as independent learners. While we certainly teach isolated skills, we also ask students to ponder and reflect upon big ideas that truly matter in the larger picture of life. We provide authentic learning experiences that strengthen a student’s understanding of both themselves as an individual, as well as where they belong in the world around them. Teachers and staff promote this learning through honest dialogue, engaging lessons, and open communication through each student’s middle school years.

Core Classes

In eighth grade, all students are required to take four core subject classes: math, science, social studies, and language arts. These are year-long classes, and students attend each class every day.

In order to meet the needs of every student, we provide accelerated, standard, and inclusion classes for math and language arts. These differentiated classes are designed to provide instruction at the appropriate and necessary academic level, and allow students to learn and grow at their own pace.

Students may have the opportunity to take Math 1, which allows them to obtain a high school credit for math if they pass the EOC at the end of the year.

Elective Classes

As a Basic School, it is important that during the middle school years our students are able to explore a variety of different elective class options. The elective classes have been created to progress in a linear fashion, with one building upon the next.

Students may have the opportunity to take Spanish 1, which allows them to obtain a high school credit for language if they pass the EOC at the end of the year.
