2017-2018 Advisory FAQ
What is advisory?

Advisory is an enrichment period that our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will participate in where teachers will present a mini-lesson and an activity based on a monthly topic. Each teacher adviser is assigned a group of about 12-15 students. This is also the group that will be doing service learning together.

When is advisory?

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 8-8:28 AM. Mondays and Fridays will consist of a Morning Meeting.

What are the monthly topics?

August: Academic Success/ Middle School Expectations
September: Red Ribbon Month/ Drug prevention and Intervention
October: Bullying Prevention and Awareness/ Digital Citizenship
November/ December: Building Positive Relationships/ Communication Skills/ Health Education
January: Career Interest and Assessment
February: Cultural Awareness and Acceptance
March: Stress and Anger Management
April: Test Taking Skills/ Test Anxiety

How is service learning being organized?

Advisory groups will get to choose from a long list of service organizations that are excited to work with them. Your learner will have the opportunity to choose from many different kinds of service work, including preparing meals for the homeless, cleaning community parks and gardens, donating to animal shelters, preparing packages for cancer patients, and much more!

These are the dates in which students will be completing their service learning:

Fall Service Learning:
October 4th: 6th Grade
October 6th: 7th Grade
October 11th: 8th Grade

Spring Service Learning:

March 23rd: 7th Grade
