Tryout Overview and Team Eligibility
The Middle School team will comprised of rising 6th-8th graders and the Junior Varsity rising 9th-10th graders. Each candidate should bring their best to clinics and tryouts. The coaches will be present and watching athletes during the entire tryout period. Prior cheer experience does not guarantee a spot on the Corvian Cheer teams.
If you are playing a fall sport and wish to tryout for Cheer, please reach out to the coach to discuss this. We are considered a winter sport and cheer for basketball, however do have some optional practices/training camps during the fall season.
Candidates will be asked to perform a cheer, chant, and dance that will be taught during the two clinic days. The judges will also ask each candidate to show a toe touch and a jump of their choice. Candidates can choose to show any tumbling that they can perform confidently alone as there will be no spotters.
For clinics please wear comfortable athletic shorts, a t-shirt or tank, and athletic or cheer shoes. Hair should be pulled off the shoulders in a neat ponytail. No jewelry of any kind should be worn. For tryouts all candidates should wear black or navy athletic shorts and a solid white t-shirt or tank, white no show socks, and athletic or cheer shoes.
We will have a team/parent meeting in the coming weeks after the teams are selected. We do practice 2-3 days per week with one being at Cheer Athletics plus will have 1-2 games per week during the season. Any questions please reach out to Meredith Spencer at meredith.spencer@Corvian.org for the Middle School Team or Tab Friese at Tabfriese@hotmail.com for the JV Team
