Q: As a parent, what can I see in Schoology?
Schoology provides a platform for communication between the school and families. At the middle and high school level, parents are able to review the course content and monitor their student’s progress by viewing calendar updates, assignments, resources, discussions, completed assessments, and grades posted by their student’s teachers. Parents will access these by viewing their student's profile and/or receiving daily or weekly email digests. Schoology does not allow for parents to receive email notifications when changes or updates are made to a student's account.
Q: I am the parent of a middle/high school level student. What should I do if I have a question about the grades or resources on one of my student’s course pages?
We ask that you encourage your student to email or speak directly to their teacher to get answers to questions about course policies, course content, or grades. If you and your student still have questions after your student has spoken with the teacher, please send the teacher an email.
Q: Is it possible to message teachers through Schoology?
No. The best way to contact a teacher is via email. Teacher email addresses can be found in the staff directory.
Q: How does the Calendar work?
You are able to view calendar updates made by the school and by each of your student's teachers on the calendar. At the middle and high school levels, teachers often post dates for tests and quizzes and due dates for homework, assignments, and projects. While teachers make every effort to keep these postings up-to-date, students must make note of any changes announced in class.
Q: How do I set up notifications in Schoology?
Follow these directions to modify your notifications in Schoology.
Q: I am confused about my student's grades. How are they being calculated?
Each teacher includes information about their grading methods in their course syllabi. Teachers use various methods including points, weighted points, and weighted percentages. If your student has a question about how the grades in a particular course are weighted or calculated, he or she should speak with the teacher to get clarification. Information about final grade calculations can be found in the Middle School Curriculum Guide and the High School Curriculum Guide.
Q: Why should I join a "Class of..." or "Campus" group on Schoology?
The administration, teachers, and staff post information and reminders about school events on these groups. You can set up your notifications to have an email update sent to you when a post is made. Notifications posted on "Class of..." pages pertain to your student's class. Notifications posted on "Campus" groups pertain to the entire campus.
